Topic: Honda Accord wheels

I have a 1998 Honda Accord with alloy wheels. The laminate is peeling off the wheels. Has anybody had this problem also?? If so, were you able to resolve it through your dealer?? I am in the US Air Force in Germany and the dealer here isn't being very helpful??IP: Logged |

With out doing a little research, my guess is that your OE alloys are finnished with a clear coat "sealer". There are several causes of a clear coat finish to begin to break down. depending on the cause, would determine if you have recouse through Honda. One of the first thing you need to do is determine they are geniune OE wheels. Many vehicle manufactures sometimes use an aftermarket wheel when putting alloys on a vehicle, even at OE or pre-delivery of a new vehicle. You can look for stamping on the wheel that may give you some indication, or you could have the wheel inspected by a knowledgeable tire/wheel dealer of a honda dealer. Given your location and differneces in world markets, that could be difficult? You may need to forward a picture of the wheel to a US source for this determination.
Some common caused of deteroration of the clear coat are balancing wieght installation, chipping from contact with curbs, or damage durring tire instalation, etc., etc., etc.. If this type of damage is not the cause you will be faced with the manf. warranty. Depending on the source/manf. of the wheel will determine the warranty time period and coverage. Most cases with a two year old wheel will yeild no warranty support.
There are several services that can repair this problem with a stripping and re-finnishing process if you really like the wheels. Your other option is of course to replace them with an aftermarket wheel.IP: Logged | |
