I just purchased new 2001 Explorer Sport 2WD 2 door. It has Firestone Wilderness HT P235/75R15 OWL all-season tires (the base tires). The 2001 Explorer Sport 2 WD has the same suspension and tires as the 4 WD (base vehicles) so both trucks have the same stance. The truck does have a little stiff ride. Is there another tire which can give me a little softer ride without compromising the handling too much. I am not planning to go off road or pull any trailer. Just using it to commute to work. I would appreciate any help. Wahid

First, I'd check your pressure to see if the tires are properly inflated. Look in your manual, not on the tire! Those Firestones are not known for a harsh ride. If the psi is correct and the ride is too stiff, you might consider a softer set of shocks, or possibly adjustble ones, which you could soften for highway use. Consider though that SUV's are designed to have a stiff ride which gives them the versatility that makes them popular. If you want a soft ride, you might be better off trading the Explorer in for a car, rather than spending $$ trying to engineer it to ride like one.IP: Logged | |
