Topic: Bubble on Sidewall

I purchased 4 new tires last year and and the two rear tires are exhibiting signs of a bubble on the sidewalls. Its more like a depression on the sidewall and it is noticably visible on both rear tires. Is this a safe condition to be driving with? Should the tires be replaced? Is this covered under warranty if they should indeed be replaced? The tires are one of the "major" well known brands out there.IP: Logged |

Unless you hit a pothole, in which case you usually have a swelling on the tire sidewall, I think it seems OK. But you might want to have them checked at a tire retailer just for peace of mind.
I find that many tires tend to develop this kind of bubbles on the sidewall.
OE General tires on 96 Taurus did the same thing and even Firestone Firehawk SH 30, too. I did not have any problem like yours when I used Bridgestone Potenza RE71, which is a fast-wearing tire but good except in winter.
I am sure that many other major brand tires also develop bubbles unless they are very expensive high performance tires.

If I remember from my days in the tire biz, indentations, or recessed bubbles are the strongest part of the tire. I believe its when the belts overlap or something. I dont remember this ever being a hazard to driving. If you hit something and pinch the tire (which is very common), you'll see a "bubble" sticking outward. This is when the belts on the inside are cut and the tire pressure found a weak spot on the sidewall forcing the sidewall outward, which the tire would definitely need to be changed. IP: Logged |

That "depression" is normal. That is where the tire casing comes together. Some tires show this depression more than others. It's nothing to worry about....if a tire "bubbles" out, you have problems.IP: Logged | |
