I just bought 4 17"x 7.5" wheels and looking to buy tires for my '99 Regal GS. I've narrowed my choices down to the 245/50/17 BF Goodrich Comp. T/A HR4s and 235/50/17 Firestone Firehawk Touring LH Vs. I live in Ohio and I'm leaning towards the Firehawks due to the narrower width (improved snow handling), shorter sidewall, and (assumed) softer ride. Maybe someone has a better third option? Any constructive feedback would be appreciated.

A bit confused at to why you'd change from the OEM sizes to 17" citing the preferences you did.

The sidewall on both will be roughly the same as they are both 50's. Either of these options will be a marked DEcrease, performance-wise using those parameters against the 16 x 6.5 standard wheels and (presumed) 225/60/16's

Don't compramize if your going up to the 17" rims. Go all the way and get Firestone SZ50's , Bridgestone RE730's or Michelin Pilots and then put snow tires on the old rims. Best of both worlds.
