Can someone recomend snow tires for a 2000 Volvo V70 with front wheel drive. I live in New Jersey and much of the time am driving on dry roads but we still have our share of ice and snow too. Good handling is a concern. Thanks!IP: Logged |

I got Michelin Arctic Alpins for my car, after checking Consumer reports. It's capabilities are a little better rounded, compared to other snow tires - decent dry and wet handling, rather than great on snow and ice, and lousy at everything else. They are a very quiet tire, especially for a snow tire, although I understand they can make silly noises in particularly wet conditions sometimes. They have a unique design, with all kinds of little sipes everywhere. I was wondering the method to the madness until I finally got to drive them in snow -- snow hardly hangs on to the tires, so they come in contact with the ground, rather than snow-covered tires touching snow. I've driven with other snow tires, and these perform fine on ice and snow. I put these on my new Subaru, and even though I've pushed the envelope a little, I have no complaints. Sure-footed. Another tire to consider is the Nokian NRW. I put these on my 1998 Volvo S70. They are very good in the snow, are quiet, and have good dry handling. They are a T speed rated tire which gives much better dry handling than most snow tires which are Q rated. They can also have a H rated version which you might want to consider. IP: Logged |

I will strongly recommand that you look for the Nokian, I am driving a C70 FWD 1999, live in N.Y State and they are just great. As far as the Michelin are concern, they are so good (???????)that there is a rumor running in the tire industry that they gonna be replace by a new one again in 2000!!!!! IP: Logged | |
