Topic: tires for driving on snow

Would like to know if anyone has any recommendations for tires to drive in snow and ice of Anchorage, AK for a 97 Lincoln Continental. Is front wheel drive. Have Mich all season tires on the car now.IP: Logged |

I have family in Anchorage and they all use Nokian Hakka 1's. They have lived there for 40 years and say this is the best snow tire they have ever used. Evidently it outlasts the Michelin's by 2 or 3 years!Good Luck! IP: Logged |

I have decided to go with Nokian snow tires after hearing so many positive things about them. My big question is what is the difference between Hakka 1, Hakka Q and NRW. I don't know which one to buy? I am in Connecticut and I drive mostly in urban areas with a lot of slush and packed snow. There can be the danger of ice but this is rare. From what I understand the Hakka 1 is a studded snow tire, the Hakka Q is studless and only comes in a Q rating and the NRW is an "All-Weather" tire which means it will actually perform year round, even in winter, unlike most all-seasons. I suggest you take a look at www.nokiantyres.com to find out more. I have seen rave reviews about the NRW and its innovative technology. This tire is supposed to be awesome.IP: Logged |

The Hakka 1 is a studable snow tire. Where I live, it's illegal to drive with studded tires. I do however have a set of 1's without the studs on my car and the performance in snow and slush is excellent. Short of rallying on ice, I don't really see any need to stud them  IP: Logged |
